The Lazy Triathlete

Probably the world's laziest triathlete. Trying desperately to become more motivated.

Season’s End

Well…the good news is that the half-marathon training has been going a LOT better than the blogging. Some new running shoes & fancy running clothes have helped motivate me to keep up with the training. And having a treadmill for late-night & bad weather runs is a huge help too.

A quick look back on this past summer – there were lots of firsts! My first pool-swim triathlon. My first Olympic-distance tri. And my first triathlon as a member of a team – the Title 9.

Did I train enough? No. Am I working to correct that? Yes I am. I’ve been running 2-3 times a week, and doing some calisthenics on my off days. I’ve got 99 days until the Disney Half, and I’m going to make them count…and hopefully blog more too.

Where have all the blog posts gone?

Well, I know I thought I would get more diligent with my posting. And I was half right! I have been routinely posting at least once a week — just to my other blog. I guess since that is more about my professional brand, I care more about consistency there, building of my personal brand.

No time for apologies though (plus, I imagine they get pretty boring to read over & over, every time I do come to post). On to progress! How have on been doing? I’m not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but I’ve definitely been doing WAY better on the fundraising than the actual training. I’m just shy of the $3k mark. The minimum for Team In Training for this race was $2700. I still have a goal of $5000, but very happy to have made the minimum so early.

As far as the actual training goes – cue the sad trombone sound clip. It’s been pretty much non-existant. There are really only two things that worry me about this triathlon – the open-water swim and the 10k. Swimming in general doesn’t bother me, and even an open-water swim is fine, but I would love to have more practice under my belt. Right now, there is nothing to be done about that, since it’s way too cold to try any outdoor swimming here yet. The 10k on the other hand is something I could already be working on, and I just haven’t done enough yet. I have no good reason why, I just haven’t. I’ve done a few treadmill runs, but not enough.

So starting tomorrow, I’m going to be starting a 7 week 10k training program. It’s not really even this distance that makes me nervous, it’s the endurance. I hate running & even at my fastest, a 10k is an hour of straight running. Bleech! How miserable. But it’s for a good cause (really two good causes – because I need to lose this belly weight!)

Til next time!! (Hopefully not as long)

Two in a row!

Went for another run yesterday (ok, you caught me – it was a jog, we all know that). It felt good, but I’m definitely not near ready for a 5k. Good thing I have 5 weeks.

I did come to the realization that running a loop on the path near my house wasn’t enough of a workout. So I searched the iPhone app store & found a few options for a gym-less/equipment-less workouts. I tried my first one last night & I am definitely feeling it today.

And to round it all out, I’m trying this too. That would just be cool to say that I could do it (and not be lying).

Finger’s crossed for being about to stick to this plan. I have a minimum of 10 pounds to lose before this wedding.

I’m baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!

Miss me?

OK…probably not, since I don’t think anyone reads this dang thing. But I’m going to continue to write it anyway.

GD and I signed up for a 5k today, after going for an encouraging jog together after work yesterday. So now that I have a new training goal – more blog posts! Hooray! (OK, yes, it’s something I’ve done already, but I have definitely taken the winter off & need a fresh start on this whole running garbage).

As for another tri — well, it doesn’t seem likely for 2010. I have that pesky wedding at the end of August, which leaves very little free time for anything else (as if I wasn’t already running on empty). I’d love to squeeze in at least a sprint though (a girl can be hopeful, right?). I’m considering the Title9 again.
