The Lazy Triathlete

Probably the world's laziest triathlete. Trying desperately to become more motivated.

Newbie Meeting

Last night was the “Newbie Meeting” at Quad MultiSport. While I haven’t done as much training as some of the women there, I actually feel more prepared than a lot of people that were in the room. The majority of the women are terrified of the swim, so I’m hoping to get to the front of my wave & not have to worry about having space to swim.

The other thing is that they suggested you try everything prior to race day, especially any gels/foods you plan on using, and to try them with a workout. So I think tomorrow I may try the gel things I bought, followed by a bike ride. I may just end up sticking to Gatorade. I also need to fit my goggles too. And put my bike rack on my car.

I hope I don’t forget anything. And I hope I cross the finish line!

Holy crap!

I now have less than a week. This is kind of scary. I have to get some training in this week, but can’t push myself too far because I want to be in top(ish) shape on Sunday.

The other news is that I have told another person about the triathlon — my roommate Jamie. So that brings the total to 4 people – my co-worker who has done a few, my boss, my boyfriend & now my roommate. I still haven’t decided on my night-before plan, although I am leaning towards staying at my house & just getting up super early. And the other good news is that right now, the weather for Sunday looks good!

Final week plans:

  • Tuesday (9/8) – run 5k on the track (after work)
  • Wednesday (9/9) – bike-run block after work
  • Thursday (9/10) – Swim at lunchtime, Newbie meeting at Quad after work
  • Friday (9/11) – Some sort of low-effort workout (bike ride?)
  • Saturday (9/12) – Volunteer for Jimmy Fund, maybe another bike ride?
  • Sunday (9/13) – RACE DAY!!! (yikes)

Better Run Just as Fast as You Can Little Girl

Got back on the treadmill after work yesterday. Not only was it not completely miserable, I actually did quite well (running for a few minutes at a 7 mph pace!). I also wore my new shoes – Zoot ULTRA Race shoes that I picked up from Quad MultiSport.

Sidenote on Quad – Marco was super helpful (although a bit awkward), and a seemingly nice guy. I will definitely be favoring this store over the cold/sterile feeling I got at Fast:Splits. Customer service definitely goes a long way.

The pull-tabs on the back make them feel a bit different than I’m used to, but I had a lot less knee pain after my run last night, so that’s a plus.

26 days.
