The Lazy Triathlete

Probably the world's laziest triathlete. Trying desperately to become more motivated.

Tick Tock

The one real bummer about my race on Sunday is that I completely fried my watch. Now, I had been using just a dinky waterproof digital watch that I wore mostly to keep track of the clock time – no splits, no GPS, just what is my approximate finishing time. And that was cool for the first few years of doing this, but now that I’m doing more events, I’m starting to think I need to invest in a better watch.

He comes the trouble. Do I go all-out and drop some significant cash to get a fancy triathlon watch? Do I start with a low-end runner’s watch and wait and see? maybe a mid-range runner’s watch that will last me longer, but then be almost as pricey as a tri watch? Obviously, I’m not sure. In the meantime, I’ll be doing a lot of reading on DC Rainmaker’s blog and trying to figure out which option is best.

Testing the Gear

I had swum in my Orca trisuit, but I figured it needed a test run on the bike and run too. Don’t want any surprised on race day. So for my workout last night, I did a short bike ride (5M), followed by a short run (1M) on the track.

I must say, I’m feeling pretty good about the results. While the lining on the trisuit is less than normal bike shorts, I think it will suffice for the short ride. I was worried about the trisuit having enough sports-bra support, but I felt fine during the mile that I ran, so I won’t be wearing a second sports bra underneath the whole get up.

And guess what I got after my run…

More bloody toe action!

More bloody toe action!

I did do some toe/toenail maintenance in hopes of resolving this issue. Any cool factor/status that I gained when this first started happening has now been lost on me, and I really just don’t want it to happen on Sunday.

3 days!

And one more thing…

Some last bits of gear that I need to get/find around my house:

  • new goggles
  • ear plugs
  • watch (mostly to keep myself motivated during the run)
  • end plug or mirror for my bike
  • bag to fit all my crap

One last thing…

I wore my Orca trisuit for the first time last night. That thing is awesome! I love it.

Of course I got the purple one…
