Today was my first race of 2013, and I’m pleased to say that I started this year off right! The race was the 5k Resolution Run to Kick Cancer, and I was lucky to have Danbo running with me. Even luckier was that her husband came along so we had a chauffeur and a pack mule to hold our stuff while we ran.
It was a practically pancake-flat course, with my only issue being my new compression pants. This was their first time out on a run, and I’m not sure what I think of them yet. They kept slipping down, so I spent half the race hiking my pants up. I think is could remedy this but tying better knots in the drawstring, and wiggling into them better pre-race. Not sure yet. Still more experimenting to do with them.
The other really stupid thing I did was go to Bikram class with a friend yesterday, after not having gone for several months. My quads have never been tighter. But despite the pants and the yoga soreness, I finished in 32 minutes and change. Not my best 5k ever, but I’m not complaining since I’m still dusting off cobwebs (or so it seems) post-PT.
After the race, Danbo and her hubby decided that they wanted to register with Gift of Life (bone marrow registry . I would have, except I’m already registered, so no need! Then we swung by the Team In Training table. I just wanted to say goodbye to Katherine and grab a chapstick. We ended up chatting for a bit and one things lead to another, and Danbo ended up joining the Nike Women’s Half team with me!! Only downside – I now have to go the GoRuck Challenge with her. Ugh. I am not looking forward to that.
